We are Carbon Neutral
We are proud to announce have now received our official carbon neutral status. This means we are now offsetting our 286 tons of carbon emissions through three projects elsewhere in the world. The work we are supporting includes clean water boreholes in parts of Africa and we will have generated a staggering 180,000 litres of clean water and saved more than 100 tons of wood from being used over the next 12 months.
Our MD Chris Ormrod said: “In 2019 we approached CO2balance to ascertain the carbon footprint of the company, this is one of the goals we created to help deliver our sustainability programme as part of our corporate social responsibility policy.
“We are now offsetting our carbon emissions by investing in parts of Africa to help save the equivalent amount of carbon over there. These are powerful statistics and I’m very proud of them.”
Our first greenhouse gas assessment, which covered the emissions emitted over a 12 month period during 2018 and 2019, revealed a carbon footprint of 285.30 tons. The most carbon intensive activity was the company’s electricity usage, which amounted to just under 77% of our carbon footprint. The remaining emissions were spread over a range of activities, including gas consumption, air travel, waste and business vehicle travel.
Carbon emissions per employee = 2.20 tons
Following CO2balance’s recommendations, The Flavourworks has chosen three projects for its Carbon Offset Programme:
- RMDLT Portel-Para REDD Project Brazil.
- Uganda Borehole Rehabilitation Project.
- Malawi Borehole Project.
We have also created a ‘green team’ to look at ways to reduce the company’s energy usage and wider sustainable practices, including the introduction of half hourly meters for our electricity and gas in order to review company’s energy use.
